Email Marketing VS. Social Marketing

Email Marketing VS. Social Marketing

Affiliate Strategy Limitations

When it comes to Email Marketing versus Social Marketing, your ability to make money as an affiliate or even as a vendor in some cases, can be affected in different ways. There are times when Social Marketing may have a bigger impact for you as an affiliate than email would.

Let’s take an example of a tangible product that you want to promote from Amazon. Perhaps you saw a treadmill that you wanted to promote and earn a commission on. You go to Amazon and copy your associate link to the product.

According to Amazon, it is perfectly acceptable for you to place that link directly on a social media platform such as Facebook or YouTube. There is no middleman or additional link needed to take the customer from your message to your blog and then to Amazon.

They simply go straight to the product to make their buying decision. That one extra step can often cause you to lose commissions on something. Because certain sites allow you to openly promote on social media platforms, this makes it an attractive option to increase commissions and conversions.

One of the drawbacks of Email Marketing is that some companies do not allow you to include their links within the body of your emails. Amazon has a strict policy that you cannot use Amazon affiliate links in your emails.

This can sometimes cause people to lose their accounts. They also do not allow you to include an Amazon affiliate link within a PDF that you send out virally. Therefore, in order to promote as an Amazon associate, using email autoresponders, you have to include that extra step and send the reader to your blog first and then they have to make another decision to click out directly to Amazon.

While Amazon is favored on some social media sites, other affiliate platforms are not as welcomed. For example, if you try to link to a JVZoo product, or some other marketing platforms, you will sometimes receive an error that it is not allowed.

Therefore, if you are promoting any products listed on some of these sites on a social platform, you have to do the same thing you have to do as an Amazon associate using email and send the reader to your blog first so that they can then make another decision to click on the link and see the product sales page.

If you ever run into any of these situations where there are limitations on what you can or cannot share as an affiliate in terms of product links for commissions, you can always research and master the art of getting the clickthrough to your blog.

This requires you to understand what piques the curiosity of the reader and makes them want to see what you’re going to say on the next page. You never want to use false information and clickbait, but instead learn how to tempt the reader morally.

Using both Email Marketing and Social Marketing, you can include a variety of media formats to showcase products and convert readers into buyers. While video can be shown right in someone’s feed on Facebook, you can embed a video on many of the email autoresponder tools.
